Is your printer robbing you of both time and money, through poor construction and inflated prices on ink or toner? Read on to find out if your printer is cheating on you…

Feel you’ve got a good deal on your printer?

Think again. It’s a standard tactic for printer suppliers to sell printer models at or under their manufacturing cost–and then make their cash afterwards with elevated ink or toner expenses.

How do you know?

Get your calculator out: Take the price of the cartridge and divide it by the page yield-the quantity of pages the producer says the cartridge can print. (Observe that most suppliers structure their page-yield figures on industry-standards meant to symbolize real-world consumption. Even so, the page yields you get can vary, based on what you actually print.)

The price per page for the printer’s ink or toner doesn’t echo other printer costs, obviously, for example those for an inkjet printer might include specific type of paper (like photo paper) or for a laser printer other costs include belts, drums, and other accessories.

In a study conducted by PCWorld, they accumulated cartridge prices and supplier page yield data for several printers. From this, they established that the costs/page for black-and-white and full four-color pages for both laser printers and inkjet printers are around average.

Inkjet printers:

Basic black text: 4 cents to 5 cents for each page

Basic four-color page: 12 cents to 14 cents for each page

Monochrome laser/LED printers:

Basic black text: 1 cent to 2.5 cents for each page

Color laser/LED printers:

Basic black text: 2 cents to 3 cents for each page

Basic four-color page: 12 cents to 15 cents for each page

In case your printer’s expenses meet or drop below these averages – that’s great. But if the expenses surpass these averages, you should look at hunting for a different printer. An individual who prints 24 or much fewer pages per week, mostly textual content with a little color, may endure a higher cost/page; but with numerous good printers on the market, why should you go with one that’s likely to cheat on you?

Consider purchasing compatible or remanufactured ink or toner cartridges from Island Ink-Jet and Laser Toners. These will gave you a 30% savings on average at ink or toner costs and will meet or exceed OEM specs without compromising quality.
